Debra opened our Derby office in September 2018 where she has worked as a Senior Solicitor since, specialising in high value catastrophic injury and complex brain injury claims. Debra has more than 30 years’ experience working in personal injury and has secured well over £35 million for her clients since then. In 2023, Debra was promoted to Assistant Director in recognition of her outstanding achievements. Alongside her work in personal injury, Debra also acts as a professional financial deputy appointed by the Court of Protection for clients who don’t have capacity to manage their own financial affairs. Debra is proud to be recognised as a specialist Head Injury Solicitor by the national charity Headway, and as an Accredited Brain Injury Specialist and Senior Litigator by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. Debra was named Lawyer of the Year by the Derby & District Law Society in 2024 for her unwavering commitment to her clients and the legal community. Debra also dedicates much of her time to Headway Derby, a local charity working to improve the lives of people affected by brain injury, where she sits on the Board of Trustees.
Abbey graduated from the University of Nottingham with a 2:1 degree in Law in July 2022, before completing her Legal Practice Course and joining Affinity Law in July 2024. Abbey works as a Paralegal across both the serious injury and Court of Protection departments, supporting a senior solicitor with the management and progression of cases. This includes making applications to the court, organising disclosure, preparing information for witness statements, instructing medical experts, liaising with clients and professionals, preparing chronologies and much more. Abbey says she enjoys the client-facing nature of her role as she is passionate about providing support to victims of serious injuries. Abbey is also the founder and former president of the 93% Club Nottingham, a society and charity focused on providing opportunities for state educated students.
Katie has worked at Affinity Law since June 2021, when she joined as a Legal Assistant before progressing to become a Paralegal in October 2023. Katie leads on the firm’s Court of Protection matters, overseeing a complex and growing caseload of deputy clients. Her role includes making applications to the Court of Protection, submitting reports to the Office of the Public Guardian, preparing detailed budgets and forecasts, perusing therapy notes, client contact and much more. Alongside this, Katie also supports the serious injury department where her duties include preparing court bundles, interviewing clients, organising disclosure and requesting records, to name but a few. Katie is currently studying for her Solicitors Qualifying Examination in the hopes of becoming a solicitor by 2026. Katie is also proud to volunteer her time to the Derby Junior Lawyers in her role as the committee’s Marketing and PR Representative.
Kulvinder joined Affinity Law in July 2024 as a Legal Administrator and has played a vital part in streamlining the firm’s administrative processes. Kulvinder brings with her a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having worked in the legal field for many years. She is responsible for the general management of the Derby office, from welcoming clients and guests to maintaining files and databases, but also supports a number of solicitors and paralegals with crucial administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of cases.
Brooke is the newest addition to the Affinity Law team in Derby having joined in November 2024 as a Legal Secretary. Brooke plays a crucial part in supporting solicitors and paralegals with a number of administrative tasks, from filing and scanning to routine correspondence with clients and professionals. Brooke excels in the client care she delivers as well as ensuring files and paperwork are well organised. She is often the first port of call for telephone enquiries and her warm and friendly manner means clients instantly feel at ease. Brooke has worked in administration since 2023 and says the thing she enjoys most about her role is communicating and interacting with a wide variety of people.
